Monthly affirmation by Jill Faulkner of StickWithIt.co
“I am Capable”
Does that brain of yours ever tell you you’re not capable?
Tell that brain to reflect on every experience you’ve had, every job you’ve done, every school project you’ve completed (the night before it was due– just me?), every homework assignment (you’ve also completed the night before it was due– again, just me?), every challenge you’ve faced, every squat you’ve pushed through, every book you’ve read, every relationship you’ve navigated, every change you’ve made…
All of these, and so much more, show you that you are capable despite what the (ego) brain tells you! The ego influences our decisions, dictates our confidence, and is not really who we are. Deep down we know that we can do anything we set our mind to, and sometimes we doubt our abilities, and hesitate to take the leap, but when we affirm “I am capable” we can change the trajectory of our life.
Did you know that women apply for jobs only if they meet 100% of the qualifications, while men apply if they meet 60% of the qualifications? Unacceptable, I say! You are capable, beyond capable, so what’s stopping you from applying for that job, running that race, quitting your job, starting a new business, releasing a relationship, moving on from a friendship, starting a new friendship?
The statistic above is something I’ve experienced, and seen first-hand. A friend of mine is currently on the job hunt, and she went through the check-off list pointing out all the qualifications she didn’t think she had. She was not confident in applying, therefore didn’t apply, even though she really wanted the job. From my vantage point, I thought she was beyond capable! We need to start talking to ourselves the way we talk to our friends. We lift them up, we encourage them and support them. Do that for yourself.
If we know we’re capable, what are we afraid of? What’s the worst that could happen? If we apply, and don’t get the job, that just means there is something better. What is stopping you?
“I am capable” is an affirmation essential in continuing to conquer all that life brings your way. We really are capable of so much more than we think. Be in awe of yourself.
